About Helotes
Helotes homes for sale are located in Bexar County, Texas and include a variety of single-family homes, lots, land, farms and ranches. This city with a population of approximately 10,000 was occupied for many years by different tribes of Native Americans. During the 1820s, the Comanche took over the land and forced the Lipan tribe from the area. In the 1830s, after the Texas Revolution, Helotes began to be developed as a farming and ranching community, although attacks by the Comanche were ongoing until the late 1870s. Present day Helotes real estate is one of the most desirable suburbs of San Antonio.
The town was incorporated in 1981 and the revitalization of the downtown area was completed in 2011. This section is Old Town Helotes and includes many businesses such as Mander Automotive Service, John T. Floore’s Country Store, L&M Feed and Supply and All That Glitters. This is also the location of the First Baptist Church of Helotes. Along Bandera Road, there are many other shopping centers, providing restaurants, a movie theater, a gym and home improvement stores.
Choosing Helotes real estate will provide home buyers with a number of annual festivals and events. The John T. Floore Country Store that is a part Old Town Helotes was opened in 1946. Rather than an actual country store, it is a honky tonk where well known names in country music have played, including Willie Nelson, who still plays there on occasion. The Cornyval Festival is held annually in Helotes and thousands attend this celebration of the namesake of the city.
BC’s Golf Ranch is located in Helotes and has a golf instructor, a golf driving range and a playground for the little ones. In addition, as a part of the San Antonio-New Braunsels metropolitan statistical district, the location is perfect for enjoying area attractions. The events, festivals and attractions in San Antonio are abundant and New Braunfel has a water park as well as several other opportunities. The Residents of Helotes are served by the Northside Independent School District. This district includes 4 elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
