Located in the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area, New Braunfels homes for sale have many advantages. New Braunfels was founded by immigrants from Germany more than 150 years ago. The city was established by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, who was the Commissioner General of the Adelsverein, known as the Noblemen’s Society. This society organized hundreds of immigrant to travel to New Braunfels to establish a settlement. It was named for the prince’s home Solms-Braunfels in Germany.
With a population of 57,740 according to the 2010 census, the city has a large number of German Texans. There are numerous recreational opportunities within the area including the German-style festival held each November. The Wurstfest or sausage festival is in honor the German heritage of the city.
Choosing New Braunfels real estate also provides many outdoor activities including tubing down the Comal and the Guadalupe Rivers. There is a water park, the Schlitterbahn Water Park Resort in New Braunfels and many tourists from across the state of Texas as well as other areas come to visit the cold-spring rivers within the city.
New Braunfels is located along the Balcones Fault. This is an area where the prairie merges with the Texas Hill Country. Along this fault within the city, there are artesian springs – Comal Springs – are connected to the Comal River. This river runs through the city for three miles before emptying into the Guadalupe River. The Comal River is considered one of the shortest in the world.
Residents of New Braunfels real estate are served by the New Braunfels Independent School District and the Comal Independent School District. There are a number of private schools in the area as well.
