About San Antonio
San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the U.S. and San Antonio real estate is located within the second largest city in the state of Texas. This city of 1.33 million is situated in south-central Texas and is the Bexar County seat. This is a city with a rich history and was originally the home of Native Americans, who lived in the area that is today San Pedro Springs. Spanish explorers first came to the area on June 13, 1691 – the feast day of St. Anthony of Padua – and the city and the river was named in his honor. Native Americans called the area “Yanaguana” which meant ‘refreshing waters.’
San Antonio had a strong cattle industry after the Civil War and in 1877 the railroad came to the city. The beginning of the 20th century saw many changes within the city including widening the streets in the downtown area. Although this was meant to accommodate the increased traffic and the street cars, many historic buildings were destroyed at this time.
Today San Antonio real estate is easily attainable by many. Transportation within the city includes Interstates 10, 35, 37 and 410 as well as U.S. Highways 281 and 77 provides access to many large cities including New Orleans, Los Angeles, Houston, Jacksonville and Minneapolis as well as others. The San Antonio International Airport is located in the north central section of the city.
