Alamo Height real estate is located in a town in Bexar County, Texas. This incorporated area is home to 7,477 and although it is surrounded by the city of San Antonio, it remains a separate community. Building of the city began in the 1890s when the Chamberlain Investment Company of Denver purchased land from early settlers of the area. A suburban residential development was planned and the streets were mapped to blend with the natural shape of the land, leaving the trees that were hundreds of years old as well as the headwaters of the river. By the early 1900s builders were constructing homes of all types and they were spread throughout the city. Part of the University of the Incarnate Word is located in Alamo Heights. This is a private Catholic school and ranks among the top in the Southwest for liberal arts programs. The University was ranked 59th by U.S. News and World Report in the 2011 edition of “Best Colleges in Regional Universities (West).” The residents of Alamo Heights real estate are served by the Alamo Heights Independent School District.

The proximity of Alamo Heights to San Antonio is another attractive aspect for those who choose homes here. A short commute will allow residents to live in this small community and work in the San Antonio area. There are many large companies located in San Antonio including five Fortune 500 companies – NuStar Energy, Clear Channel Communications, USAA, Tesoro and Valero Energy Corporation. There are several other companies with headquarters in San Antonio as well, including Eye Care Centers of America, Taco Cabana, Whataburger and Kinetic Concepts, providing diverse opportunities for jobs.
