When choosing San Antonio real estate, the military bases located in the area are an important consideration. There is a huge military presence in the city with the air bases of Lackland, Randolph, Brooks City and Kelly and army bases including Fort Sam Houston. Randolph Air Base was established in 1930 and since that time many members of the base – active military as well as retired – have made San Antonio home. The military offers assistance to qualified members for the purchase of a home and San Antonio real estate has been the choice of many. Within the area there are a number of single-family and multi-family homes, townhouses, condos, farms, ranches and lots and land for construction.

San Antonio is also the location for Brooks-City base, which was established in 1917. Originally known as Brooks Air Force Base, 2011 was the last year for operations. There are however, many who have served at this base that chose San Antonio as the area in which they wanted to live. With the variety of recreational opportunities provided by living in this area as well as the open space that is preferred by many, San Antonio real estate provides something for everyone.

Lackland Air Force Base is located at the southwest side of the city limits of San Antonio. Construction began on this base in 1941 and the original name was the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center. However, it was renamed by Brigadier General Frank Lackland in 1947 and became Lackland AFB.

Kelly Air Force Base borders Lackland AFB on the west and is located about 7 miles from downtown San Antonio. The community that surrounds the base is a mixture of residential, commercial and some agricultural and industrial. The area was developed in the 1940s and 1950s. Before this development it was mostly agricultural land.

San Antonio real estate provides a choice that is quite beneficial due to the location.
