It is a part of the San Antonio metropolitan statistical area and is located about 9 miles from Bandera. The history of this small community includes the founding around 1870. The town was named for Pipe Creek, which is nearby. In the 1880s the area was mainly agricultural. Farmers raised cattle, sheep, corn and cotton. Pipe Creek flourished in the 1950s and 1960s and the population increased to 220. Pipe Creek real estate thrived as well and more than twenty-five subdivisions were built in the area.

Today, Pipe Creek real estate consists of a single-family homes, lots and land and farms. Commercial property on State Highway 16 and Alamo Beach Road is an option. Some new construction is available in the area as well. The residents of this area as well as the city of Bandera are served by the Bandera Independent School District. Bandera is the county seat of Bandera County and many residents of Pipe Creek work here and in San Antonio. Bandera, with a population of 1216, is fifty miles from San Antonio. State Highway 16 provides residents with access to San Antonio. Bandera is called the “Cowboy Capital of the World.” The area is known for the many ‘dude ranches’ that operate within this county today. Bear Springs Blossom is a 125 acre nature preserve near Pipe Creek where visitors may enjoy nature. There are guided tours of the preserve available on six different trails within the preserve.
